A collaboration between Austrian artists Benjamin Kamon and David Wolke for The Art of Cutlery, a chef knife named “Nexus,” on show during summer 2024 in Tribeca, NYC, marries Benjamin’s bladesmithing to David’s metalsmithing and object design sensibilities with unprecedented results. In addition to the host of finely-tuned technical features that Benjamin’s blades are known for, this blade receives a one-of-a-kind, forged, high-polished finish. With an equal sheen, a handle of ‘woven’ sterling silver is the blade’s partner. The form was first designed digitally, then 3D-printed. From the 3D print a lost wax casting mold was made with which the finished form was cast in sterling silver. Through the weave’s center runs a retention bolt. The piece is displayed and stored on a magnetic, steel stand. Nexus arrives sharp and crafted for daily kitchen use.
